Group Head of Housing
Recruitment

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in Arun District Council and the exceptional opportunity to join our leadership team as the new Group Head of Housing. This role is not only career-defining but also holds significant importance as our Housing Revenue Account (HRA) constitutes a significant proportion of Arun’s budget, underscoring the impact you can make in this position.

At Arun District Council, we firmly believe that everyone deserves a place they can call home, regardless of their age or circumstances. Our goal is to foster a mixed housing economy within the district, providing a diverse range of housing options for individuals to choose from, whether they prefer renting or buying.

One of our key focuses is to maximise the energy efficiency of homes in our district. With a housing stock of 3,833 properties and plans to build an additional 250 houses over the next few years, we recognise the importance of sustainable living and strive to create an environmentally friendly community. By improving the energy efficiency of our homes, we contribute to a greener future whilst also helping residents reduce their utility costs.

Maintaining a high standard for our housing stock is of utmost importance to us. We prioritise the upkeep of existing housing, regardless of ownership, to ensure that all residents have access to safe and well-maintained homes.

To achieve our vision, you will collaborate actively with partners from various sectors, influencing the local housing market to develop homes and infrastructure that meet our community’s needs. Furthermore, you will utilise the planning system to create exceptional new places and enhance our existing homes. Your commitment to aligning our current and new homes with the requirements of both current and future generations will be crucial.

We are seeking someone who brings excitement and fresh ideas to our team. In this role, you will be involved in appraising options for our sheltered properties and making decisions on their future and development. Moreover, we are actively exploring partnerships with neighbouring authorities to align our services and enhance our impact in the region.

At Arun Housing, our team members are encouraged to leave a lasting legacy, and we highly value stability, experience, and expertise in the housing sector. Whilst the pressures related to repairs and finances exist, we require someone who can quickly acquire knowledge and bring about improvements. Tact and diplomacy are also essential qualities as you may encounter external challenges that require endurance and resilience.

If you are excited about the prospect of joining a team that is stabilising and moving forward, working in a mature housing environment, and addressing critical challenges head-on, we invite you to apply for this position at the Arun District Council. Together, we can create positive change and leave a lasting legacy.

We look forward to receiving your application and the opportunity to discuss your potential contributions to our team.
